Open Surgery

Open surgery repair is done through a single 1 inch cut into your scrotum. The surgeon will use a magnifying glass or operating microscope to have a better view of small veins. The use of Doppler ultrasound is another approach which helps guide the procedure. The surgery can be done under local or general anesthesia to numb the area. Pain from open surgery is mild and the patient will be able to return to normal after two days. Your doctor might advise pain medication for some time to relieve discomfort. It takes around three months for new sperm to develop after the surgery.
Open surgery (microsurgical subinguinal varicocelectomy) is more successful as compared to other surgical methods.
